Our trusty steed for this epic adventure is a Dawes Galaxy Twin tandem road bike. It is a 2006 model bought by Joules & Richard in February 2007 from JD Cycles in Ilkley, West Yorkshire, one of the country's leading tandem specialists.
The only changes made from the standard specification are to the gears. Due to the nature of the roads in Cornwall (very up and down!) gear changes are very frequent, so rather than the standard gear levers on the ends of the bars, we had STI shifters fitted. These are combined with the brake levers so they are always to hand making life much easier.
Since we bought the bike we have taken it to France twice and ridden it round lots of West Cornwall! This ride will see the highest daily milages we have yet managed, but we are confident in our abilities, and encouraged by the tales of others who have completed the ride.

- Joules & Richard are both around mid-life crisis age and live between Hayle and Helston in Cornwall, or Narnia as it is to us. Joules has three boys, George 19, Oliver 17, and Harry 14, our biggest support team. Unfortunately Joules lost her Mum, best friend and confident in September 2009 to cancer. The Marie Curie nursing team in Cornwall made it possible for the last months to be spent in as much comfort as possible in her own home. This has given Joules the determination to make a mark on life and to give something back. Joules has been a Chiropodist for 11 years and is very privilaged as she loves her job. Richard married Joules in 2008 and moved down from Nottinghamshire. The wedding was organisied in EIGHT DAYS! we had to fit it in so that Joules' Mum would be well enough to enjoy the day, the best decision either of us has ever made. Richard now works for Marks & Spencers in Hayle and is very grateful for the support they are offering on this trip. Richard and Joules first rode a tandem in the New Forest in 2006, Richard was dubious to begin with, but has been completely converted ever since.
